Zinc-copper mineralization found at Abbey/Aur prospect

Partners Aur Resources and Abbey Exploration say they have intersected more high grade zinc-copper mineralization at the Lugold property in Louvicourt Twp., Que.

According to Aur Chairman James Gill, the mineralization is contained in a massive sulphide deposit discovered in 1986.

Discovery hole 308-7 intersected 17.15% zinc, 0.70% copper, 0.32 oz silver per ton and 0.01 oz gold over 12 ft.

Gill says the best intersections in each hole drilled in the deposit during the 1987 program are 22.33% zinc, 0.23% copper over 18.5 ft in hole 308-17; 1.30% copper over 40 ft in hole 308-18 and 2.97% zinc, 0.67% copper over 38 ft in hole 308-19.

“The massive sulphide deposit has associated widespread stringer copper mineralization, strong host rock alteration and appears to have been affected by folding and faulting,” he said.

The 1987-88 program is continuing and the budget increased to $1 million from $500,000 so that additional drilling can be carried out to outline reserves at this deposit.

The Lugold property is owned by Abbey Exploration. Aur Resources is operator of the exploration program and has the right to earn 50% interest in the property after a production feasibility study is complete.

The results of some holes drilled on this deposit in 1987 are as follows:

Hole 308-17 intersected 36.5 ft of 12.3% zinc, 0.4% copper, 0.51 oz silver and 0.006 gold. Included in that was 22.33% zinc and 0.23% copper over 18.5 ft located 200 ft down dip from discovery hole 308-7. According to Aur, strin ger mineralization grading 1.54% copper across 15 ft, 1.22% copper over 13.5 ft, 2.88% copper over 3 ft and 2.74% copper over 3 ft was also intersected in this hole.

Hole 308-18 intersected stringer copper mineralization grading 1.42% copper over 18 ft located 50 ft below the high grade zinc intersection in hole 308-17 as well as 0.66% copper across 160 ft including 1.03% copper over 40 ft an additional 200 ft below.

Hole 308-19 intersected 38 ft of massive and stringer sulphides approximately 80 ft west of the high grade zinc in hole 308-17. This intersection averages 2.97% zinc, 0.67% copper, 0.38 oz silver and 0.01 oz gold and includes 10.37% zinc, 0.89% copper across 2 ft; 8.5% zinc, 1.93% copper across 2 ft and 19.8% zinc, 2.15% copper across 3 ft.

In addition, widespread stringer copper mineralization above and below the massive sulphides included values of 2.56% copper over 8 ft, 0.9% copper over 9 ft and 1.44% copper over 7.5 ft.
