Diamond explorer Tahera Diamond (TAH-T) has received its lease for Crown lands covering the Jericho diamond project in Nunavut from the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, and expects to receive a lease on Inuit treaty lands in short order.
The leases cover the surface rights for the Jericho diamond project, which Tahera plans to bring into production in early 2006. Tahera’s mineral claims cover only subsurface rights, and the area includes both Crown and Inuit land.
Tahera has also received an access permit from the Kitikmeot Inuit Association, which administers the Inuit treaty lands, which will allow full access until a lease is granted. In January, the company received its water permit, which was the last major environmental approval required before construction begins at Jericho.
Tahera will begin moving materials and equipment by winter road this month, a process that will continue through to April. Construction is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2005.
