Toronto Stock Exchange August 7-13

The TSX Composite Index fell 137.79 points to 13,427.45 over the Aug. 7-13 trading period. And the Global Gold Index slipped 3.27 points to 275.35, while gold closed at US$668.75, down US$2.75.

The Capped Metals and Mining Index dropped 37.88 points to 799.380.

Dynatec was the most traded stock over the period with nearly 53 million shares changing hands, followed by LionOre Mining with almost 46 million shares traded and Starfield Resources with 39 million shares.

General Minerals saw the biggest percentage change with a 79% jump to $3.14 on moderate volume of 238,000 shares. The company recently signed a deal to spin off its North American assets into a separate gold-copper company.

Next in line was Fortune Minerals with a 34% increase to $3.90 on 250,000 shares traded. Fortune bought an 8% minority interest in the Nico cobalt-gold-bismuth deposit in the Northwest Territories that was held by Candou Industries. Fortune now owns the entire project, which is slated to produce 24,000 oz. gold and 1,500 tonnes each of cobalt and bismuth annually. The mine will cost $215 million to build.

Shares in WGI Minerals improved 33% to reach $1.00. The company posted a net loss of $300,000 for the first half of 2007, a major improvement over the net loss of $2.8 million for the same period last year. Revenues were up nearly 32% to $7.3 million from $5.5 million in the second quarter of 2006.

Duluth Metals also gained 33% over the period, to close at $1.73. Duluth received a technical report on its Nokomis deposit in Minnesota, which has a 347-million-tonne indicated resource running 0.62% copper, 0.2% nickel and 0.52 gram total precious metals per tonne (which includes platinum, palladium and gold), and an inferred resource of 108 million tonnes grading 0.64% copper, 0.18% nickel and 0.7 gram total precious metals.

On the losing side, Africo Resources fell 23% to $1.79. A court hearing on Aug. 10 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo found that the actions of three judges accused of judicial misconduct could not be examined by the Supreme Court as they were orders and not judgments.

BrazMin shares fell 15% to $1.18. The company, which has changed its name to Talon Metals, reported a loss of just under $1 million in the second quarter. Talon blamed the loss on a $657,500 unrealized loss on an investment in Brazauro Resources, which has three gold properties in Brazil.
