TSX Venture Exchange April 3-9

Robust metal prices, fuelled by supply concerns, propelled the S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index up 93.57 points to an almost 11-month high of 3,283.63 over the Easter holiday-shortened April 3-9 trading session. Average daily trading volumes on the junior board rose over the week to 98.5 million shares.

Bulls strongly overwhelmed bears on the week with a bolstered 87 junior explorers rising to new annual highs against 22 that slipped to 52-week lows.

Soaring on news of a nickel find during its diamond hunt, GGL Diamond easily grabbed top weekly volume honours with 99.7 million shares changing hands. The stock — which closed at 73 per share, a whopping gain of 420%, or 59 — touched a high of $1.50 during the trading frenzy.

Shares of Dumont Nickel gained almost 100% on the week, closing up a dime at 21 apiece on trading volume of over 29 million. The company said it was unaware of the reason behind the rally.

Strong trading in UrAsia Energy continued on the week at 21.7 million shares. The stock got a 13% boost, closing up 94 at $8.14 per share. Shareholders recently approved the company’s planned merger with SXR Uranium One.

Molybdenum explorer Bard Ventures traded almost 13 million shares over the session, but shed 14 to close down 33% at 29 per share. Additional drill results from the company’s Lone Pine project in northern B.C. returned thinner intervals of molybdenum mineralization than encountered in its first two holes.

Knight Resources saw almost 11.5 million shares change hands to post an 82% gain, closing up 15.5 at 34.5 per share. The company announced plans for an 8,000-metre drill program at its West Raglan nickel project in northern Quebec.

The strong nickel market contributed to Crowflight Minerals’ continued rally; its shares closed the week up 12 at $1.04 per share on trading volume of 10.7 million shares. The company recently updated its Bucko Lake bankable feasibility study, showing a $44-million boost in the northern Manitoba nickel deposit’s net present value.

Northern Abitibi Mining gained 81% to close up 10.5 at 23.5 per share on weekly volume of over 8 million shares. It recently optioned the Taylor Brook nickel-copper-cobalt-platinum group elements project in northwestern Newfoundland from Altius Resources.

Shares of Geologix Explorations rocketed 107%, gaining $1.06 to close at $2.05 on trading volume of 2.3 million shares. Drilling on the company’s San Agustin project in Durango state, Mexico, recently intersected wide intervals of low-grade gold mineralization.

Junior nickel producer Brilliant Mining saw its shares rise 57 to close out the week at $2.45 apiece on volume of over 6.5 million shares. Wide high-grade nickel intervals, coupled with a reserve increase at its Lanfranchi mine project, in the Kambalda area of Western Australia, tantalized investors.
