TSX Venture Exchange June 19-25

A modest slip in the bullion price prompted the S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index to close out the June 19-25 trading session on an off note, down 36.29 points at 3,189.89. Average daily trading volumes were also lower, at 67.5 million shares.

The market saw the bearish trend relax somewhat for the week, with 40 junior explorers seeing new 52-week highs versus 55 that touched new annual lows.

Northern Abitibi Mining was the top trader for the session, closing two pennies lower at 28 per share on volume of more than 13 million shares. The company recently wrapped up the first phase of fieldwork at its Taylor Brook polymetallic project in Newfoundland.

With a $20-million financing under its belt, the company is awaiting assays from 11 holes on its Kwanika copper-gold porphyry project in central B.C.’s Quesnel Trough.

High-grade zinc intervals from drilling on its 40 Mile project, in eastern Alaska, pushed Full Metal Minerals to a 28% gain, closing up 62 at $2.83 per share on volume of 2.2 million shares. A 44.6-metre intersection on the LWM prospect averaged 15.9% zinc, 4.5% lead and 76.6 grams silver in massive sulphides.
