Junior miners and explorers posted another strong week on the back of continued robust precious and base metal prices with the S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index gaining 3.2% or 89.26 points to close the Nov. 28-Dec. 4 trading session at 2,837.67. Average daily trading volumes soared over the bullish session to around 88.9 million shares.
Buoyant market conditions were also again reflected in the weekly high versus low tally, with 59 junior board companies rising to new 52-week highs compared with 34 explorers that dropped to yearly lows.
A whopping high-grade gold intercept at its Windfall project in Quebec rallied Noront Resources to top-volume honours with 30.2 million shares changing hands. The stock gained over 210%, or 51, to close at 75 per share after cutting 4.8 metres of 1,792.9 grams gold.
Uranium-focused junior Gravity West Mining saw trading volume of 19.5 million shares to gain 1.5, closing at 7.5. The company is exploring its Voltaire project in the Sibley basin of northern Ontario.
Strateco Resources posted further gains on the week, closing up 22% or 46 at $2.56 per share on volume of 16.7 million shares. Recent drilling at its Otish Mountain-area Matoush project recently cut significant uranium-mineralized intervals.
Shares of Skyharbour Resources gained a couple of pennies on trading volume of 13.5 million to close at 13 apiece. The company acquired a trio of projects in the vicinity of Rainy River Resources’ namesake project in northwestern Ontario.
With spot uranium prices notching up to the US$63-per-lb. level, producer UrAsia Energy posted a 12% gain to close up 47 at $4.25 on volume of over 10 million shares. Resources at the company’s South Inkai uranium project in Kazakhstan, where it also operates the Akdala mine, recently saw a 69% boost following a revised estimate.
Solitaire Minerals perked up over the trading session to close up 4.5 to 18.5 on 9.4 million shares of volume. Rubicon Minerals, the company’s partner at the Red Lake North gold project, recently began a drill program on its wholly owned McFinley project in the Red Lake, Ont., area.
With a recent $5-million funding agreement to explore its Flin Flon-belt project portfolio, Murgor Resources closed the week up 4 at 29.5 on volume of over 9 million shares.
Shares of Northwest Mineral Ventures gained 28%, closing at 64 apiece on trading volume of 8.6 million following the discovery of a uranium-mineralized zone on its North Rae project in Quebec.
Tournigan Gold traded up 13%, or 40, to $3.40 per share on volume of almost 7.4 million. Drilling at its Jahodna uranium project in Slovakia has extended the mineralized zone.
Rupert Resources moved up 83% on the week with a gain of 30 to 66 per share on trading volume of over 2 million. Speculation is on the company’s deep drilling program on its Gold Centre project at Red Lake.
