PDAC JV Video: Namib Minerals preps to reopen gold mines in Zimbabwe

Namib Minerals CEO Ibrahima Tall (R) speaks with video host Devan Murugan, from Mining.com, at PDAC.

Namib Minerals is working to expand and restart three gold mines in Zimbabwe to help fund its critical mineral ambitions in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), CEO Ibrahima Tall says.

The company is raising capital to eventually restart the Redwing, How and Mazowe mines in Zimbabwe’s Bulawayo greenstone belt at higher capacity than before, Tall said. How produced 1.8 million oz. of gold from 1941 to 2023, and Mazowe and Redwing host almost 1.5 million measured and indicated tonnes.

“We expect to produce copper and cobalt in DRC,” Tall said at the annual Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada convention in Toronto. “We see ourselves going there and becoming a major player in that space [and] we’ll keep doing exploration.”

The company holds 13 battery metal exploration permits in DRC, where it plans to declare resources by the end of the year.
